Who is eligible for Level 1 Training based on the updated admissions criteria?

The following is a list of professions held by U.S. residents who will be considered for IFS Institute North American Level 1 Training Programs* as of February 2024:
  • Licensed mental health professionals, including but not limited to Licensed Professional Counselors & LPC-Associates, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists & LMFT-Associates, Licensed Psychologists, Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselors 
  • Social Workers under supervision 
  • Psychiatrists 
  • Doctors of Medicine (MD) 
  • Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) 
  • Psychiatric Registered Nurses 
  • Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners 
  • Those who have 1) earned a Master's or Ph.D. degree in a mental health field and 2) have the legal authority provide mental health services, including those conducting research on IFS as a psychotherapeutic model

Individuals who reside outside of the U.S. must be internationally registered mental health professionals (including but not limited to Registered Psychotherapists) with a regulatory oversight authority, to be considered for an IFS Institute North American Level 1 Training.

At this time, IFS Institute is unable to evaluate eligibility on an individual basis. If you believe you qualify for North American Level 1 Training based on the professional criteria listed above, then we welcome your Level 1 General Application (GA) during an open GA Period. Before submitting an application, please keep in mind that the $75 USD application fee is non-refundable.

*This list is for those applying to Level 1 Trainings organized by IFS Institute. The list is also applicable to training programs organized by our International Partners for applicants who are from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. We maintain ongoing consultation with our International Partners for future alignment of international admissions criteria with their local professional regulations.
