What does evaluation and feedback look like?

After completing a Recorded or Live Session Review, the Certification Reviewer provides written feedback.

Written Feedback

Feedback is provided in the form of a brief written note outlining:

  • Demonstrated strengths

  • Areas for continued development (“growing edges”)

If you request additional debrief time beyond the written feedback, it may be scheduled directly with the Certification Reviewer and billed at the Reviewer’s agreed hourly rate.

Evaluation Standards

Certification Reviewers assess sessions using the official Certification Review evaluation form.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate core IFS competencies, including:

  • Consistent demonstration of Self energy

  • Clear identification and contracting with target parts

  • Effective use of core IFS interventions (e.g., the 6 “F”s)

  • Work with protectors and exiles

  • Progression through the Six Steps of Healing (at minimum through Witnessing the Exile)

  • Safe and appropriate session closure

Unburdening is encouraged but not required if time constraints prevent completion.

The full list of competencies is outlined in the Certification Review materials provided during the application process.

If Competencies Are Not Met

If the required competencies are not demonstrated:

  • The applicant must submit a new video or complete another live session review with the same Certification Reviewer.

If an applicant is assessed on two occasions as not yet ready for Certification:

  • The Reviewer will provide recommendations for additional consultation or training.

For a third review attempt:

  • The applicant may choose a new Certification Reviewer.

After a third unsuccessful attempt, applicants are encouraged to develop a one-year learning plan before submitting for review again.

All Reviewer decisions are final. A new session must be submitted for each review attempt.
