While navigating the IFS Provider Directory, what are the important terms to understand?

While navigating the IFS Provider Directory, you may find the following terms and definitions helpful:

Levels of Learning

The IFS Institute offers three levels of training: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. Each level represents additional training and experience in the IFS model.

To complete Level 3, an individual must have completed Level 1, one or more Level 2 programs, and a Level 3 program.

Certification

Certification is a separate, advanced process through which individuals demonstrate competence in the IFS model.

All individuals who are IFS Certified have completed at least IFS Level 1 Training.

IFS Certified Therapists and IFS Certified Providers

  • IFS Certified Therapists are individuals who have completed the IFS Certification process and have declared that they hold the required mental health credentials to legally practice psychotherapy in the jurisdiction where they are licensed or registered.

  • Individuals who have completed the IFS Certification process but do not hold psychotherapy licensure are listed as IFS Certified Providers.

Approved IFS Clinical Consultants

Approved IFS Clinical Consultants are IFS Certified Therapists who have:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience practicing IFS after completing Level 1 training, and

  • Been recommended by a Lead Trainer as an Approved IFS Clinical Consultant.

These individuals provide consultation services related to IFS practice.

Important Reminder

We rely entirely on self-reported information provided by individuals listed in the directory regarding their credentials, licenses, or registrations. The IFS Institute is not a licensing or disciplinary body and does not independently verify this information.

We strongly encourage you to verify credentials directly with the provider before engaging in services.
