Who teaches IFS trainings?

IFS trainings are taught by experienced therapists who have completed extensive training and approval to serve as IFS Trainers through IFS Institute.

Each training is led by one or more Lead Trainers and Assistant Trainers, and supported by Program Assistants (PAs) who help guide experiential learning and practice groups.

About IFS Trainers

IFS Trainers are mental health professionals with deep experience using the Internal Family Systems model in clinical practice. They are specifically trained to teach IFS in a cohort-based, experiential training environment.

IFS Institute maintains a public list of approved IFS Trainers. You can view the full list here:
Visit the IFS Trainers page.

The role of Program Assistants (PAs)

Program Assistants support participants throughout the training, particularly during practice group sessions. PAs work under the guidance of the Lead and Assistant Trainers to help ensure a safe, structured learning experience.

Will Dick Schwartz teach my training?

Dr. Richard C. Schwartz, developer of the IFS model and founder of IFS Institute, does not teach Level 1 or Level 2 Trainings. He occasionally facilitates select Level 3 Trainings.

How to see who’s teaching your training

To find out who will be facilitating a specific training, review the Informational Brochure on the training’s webpage. Trainer assignments vary by program.
